Black ice remains on the roadway on several streets and highways in the Mother Lode. Calaveras County based CHP Officer Bryan Duquesnel says eight vehicles went off the road on Highway 4 near Copperlopolis around sunrise today. Duquesnel says drivers should slow down when approaching shady stretches of the road where ice often remains late in the day. Tuolumne County Law enforcement also had a flurry of fender benders to deal with this morning. Traffic was backed up on Highway 108 between Sonora and Souslbyville for much of the morning commute. Ice should decrease as temperatures rise this afternoon.
