Police Gear Up For New Gear, Officers
Sonora Police are in the process of beefing up their ranks. Police Chief Mace McIntosh says two of five new officers have already been hired.
Funding to hire the new officers is coming from the voter approved Measure I. The Measure tacks on a 1-cent sales tax to the existing sales tax. McIntosh says the Department is also in the process of purchasing three used cruisers from Salt Lake County. Some new computer equipment will also be installed with the Measure I revenue. McIntosh adds that the state of the economy and the city´s coffers will be the deciding factors on whether and how much money will be dispersed to police next year.
