Calaveras Board Votes Monday On Travelling Meetings

Sponsored by:

Calaveras County´s Board of Supervisors will vote Monday on whether or not to occasionally conduct board meetings outside of the county seat.

County Counsel Jim Jones was directed to explore the legality of the proposal, which appears to have the support of the majority of board members. Jones says one possibility is that supervisors could take the meetings on the road during months that contain five Mondays. The board normally meets four mondays each month. Jones says they could recess their meeting on the fourth Monday of the month and resume it the following Monday at whichever community they´re scheduled to visit.

San Andreas is the county seat, but some supervisors say they´d like to reach out to residents in remote communities throughout the sprawling county. Fourth District Supervisor Tom Tryon says he´s opposed to the idea, but at least three of the board members have expressed an interest in pursuing the possibility.
