Second Audit in Six Weeks for Secretary of State
Secretary of State Kevin Shelley faces a damaging new state report on his alleged verbal attacks on staffers and questionable hiring practices.
Meanwhile, stories about his possible resignation are swirling inside the Capitol. But a Shelley spokeswoman said today that he has — quote — no intention of resigning. The state Board of Personnel is due to release a report at 9 a-m tomorrow on allegations that Shelley frequently lost his temper at work. Shelley has also been accused of making sexually suggestive remarks to staffers and creating a hostile working environment in California´s top elections office.
The report is the second such audit of Shelley´s conduct in six weeks. The 49-year-old Democrat has denied many of the accusations that stem from complaints filed with the state by former staffers. But the complaints triggered an investigation by the agency that watches over state´s 160-thousand employees and their working
conditions.
