California Flu Strain Could Affect Vaccines Next Year

Sponsored by:

The World Health Organization is recommending that a new flu strain that originated in Santa Clara County and two others be the target of next year´s U-S vaccine.

Each year the WHO attempts to predict which flu strains will be the most prevalent for the coming season. The recommendations are usually used to create the version of the influenza vaccine manufacturers will make.

The Santa Clara County strain´s emergence was confirmed last month by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It may be responsible for as much as 20 percent of U-S flu cases.
