Urban Sprawl Encroaches
Large portions of the Central Valley, right down the hill from the Mother Lode, may give way to massive urban sprawl, according to a new study just released.
The Public Policy Institute of California projects that at least one-fourth of farm land in the San Joaquin Valley will be lost if the current trend continues. Spokesman John Gamper says the results of the report are staggering in the scope of the amount of open space that may be lost.
Gamper says the current trend toward development in Northern California closely mirrors earlier trends documented along the state´s South Coast and in the Santa Clara Valley.
