The victim of Sunday´s deadly avalanche near Sugar Bowl ski area has been identified as a 45-year-old critical care nurse at Saint Marys Regional Medical Center.
Gerilyn Ewing was among a group of eleven skiers caught in the slide on the west side of Anderson Peak, about five miles south of Donner Summit along the Sierra Crest.
Her boyfriend, Jerry Puryear and Yale Spina also were buried in the slide. Puryear says Spina freed himself, then helped dig out the other man. Ewing apparently was killed on impact as she was swept through trees.
