CHP Looks For Seatbelt, Safety Seat Violators
Motorists in the Mother Lode are advised to buckle-up.
Today is the official “Click it or Ticket” day designated by the California Highway Patrol. At least a half-dozen people not seatbelted have been killed in vehicle accidents in the Mother Lode so far this year.
Jamestown based Officer Tom Wills says the CHP has received a grant to fund overtime for officers on patrol on the lookout for motorists that aren´t seatbelted and young children that are not riding in a safety seat.
“Make sure you have your children in their child restraint seats properly and that everyone in the car has their seatbelt on.”
Wills says almost all of the recent fatalities on Mother Lode roadways this year have involved motorists not wearing seat belts. While the initial fines for violators aren´t enormous, all violations will go on motorists´ driving records.
“It´s $90 for your first offense and at least $210 for every offense after that. A child safety seat ticket is at least $370 right now.”
Parents are encouraged to bring their child safety seats into the CHP office in Jamestown for free inspection and installation.
