Robery Suspects Escape Via Tuolumne River
MODESTO, Calif. (AP) __ Authorities in Stanislaus County think that the fast moving Tuolumne River got the best of one of two robbery suspects.
A spokesman with the sheriff´s department says a male and female robbery suspect tried to elude capture by jumping into the Tuolumne River.
The man made it to the other side and escaped, but police say the woman was probably swept away.
Though a search of the river by fire department crews using special equipment that detects body heat turned up empty, police say that the water temperature is cold and it´s very likely the suspect drowned.
The chase began after a man reported being robbed on a Modesto street.
