Calaveras County Officials Want More Study On Lowes Impact

Officials in Calaveras County are asking the City of Sonora to slow down on its plans to build a Lowes Home Improvement Center.

County officials say the plans for the big-box warehouse type store failed to address the project´s possible impact on Calaveras County.

California Gold Development wants to place the 112-thousand square-foot store at the corner of Sanguinetti and Old Wards Ferry Roads near the Wal-Mart store in Sonora.

The city said in its initial review last month that the project´s impact could be mitigated without a full environmental impact report. The city and developer plan to put a mitigated negative declaration before the city´s planning commision in May or June.

Calaveras County officials are requesting more study on the project´s effect on the environment and traffic patterns in the area.
