Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, CA — Calaveras County´s first painted frog of 2005 is missing.

Angels Camp police say the four-foot tall frog named Lilly was reported missing from the Camps Restaurant over the weekend. The fiberglass frog is valued at more than $2500 and was supposed to be auctioned off for charity this fall.

Lilly was created as part of the painted frogs of Calaveras County project, which is designed to give local artists a showcase for their work and raise money for charities.

Proceeds from the auction of Lilly were to go to the Lupus Foundation of America and the Bret Harte High School art scholarships. Police are calling it an incident of grand theft and a detective has been assigned to the case.

Authorities have not named any suspects.
