Excess Rainfall Hampers Valley Farmers

Sponsored by:

Undated — Above average rainfall in the northern San Joaquin valley is putting a damper on the valley´s commercial activity and strawberry production.

Yesterday´s downpour dumped almost three-quarters of an inch of rain on Sonora yesterday, slowing traffic and flooding storm drains. Roughly the same amount fell on Modesto.

The recent storm drove the total rainfall in the valley to almost 4 inches above average. Meanwhile strawberry growers are worried that the excess moisture will curtail production.

Authorities say snow above the 7 ,000 ft mark will likely keep the mountain passes closed beyond Memorial Day as well.
