TCSO SWAT Team Takes Suspect Into Custody

Sponsored by:

Tuolumne, CA — There was a heavy law enforcement presence in the area of Main Street in Tuolumne late Tuesday evening and continuing into early Wednesday morning.

The Sheriff’s Office received a report of alleged criminal threats made by 42-year-old Brandon Salter to a woman via a messaging application. He already had multiple felony warrants for his arrest. Deputies responded the area and tried to contact Salter outside of a home in Tuolumne. He fled inside and tried to avoid deputies.

The homeowner allowed officials to enter, and they located a 17-year-old runaway juvenile who was wanted on a warrant. The juvenile attempted to flee, but was captured and transported to the Juvenile Hall.

Salter, meanwhile, hid inside an attic area and refused to comply with deputy orders. The Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) team responded, along with a Crisis Negotiations Team, to resolve the incident.

At around 2:30 am, Salter eventually came out and was taken into custody. He faces new charges of criminal threats and resisting arrest. The sheriff’s office thanks the Tuolumne community for its patience during the incident, and understands that the use of the loudspeaker during the early morning hours can be disruptive. The department notes that it uses all available tools to help achieve a peaceful resolution with minimal force.

We reported in 2016 that Salter was arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle and in 2019 related to a meth bust.
