Angels Camp, CA — Organizers are calling the Calaveras County “Relay For Life” event to benefit the American Cancer Society a huge success.
The event was held over the weekend at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp over the weekend.
Carol Swartzlander says the fundraising goal of $200,000 was met with a little to spare.
The preliminary amount raised for the Cancer Society was $200,761.91. Swartzlander says the money that stays in Calaveras County will be put to good use.
The money raised will go to research, education and non-smoking programs in the schools, as well as to reimburse chemotherapy patients who travel to the valley for treatment.
Swartzlander says the event was designed to raise awareness and promote the progress the Cancer Society is making in the fight against cancer.
Fifty-five out of 56 teams registered participated in the event. The Cancer Society says it´s one of the group´s largest fundraisers.
