Calaveras Planning Commission To Look Into New Housing Project

Murphys, CA — A proposed project going before the Calaveras County Planning Commission could give a new face to an old tuberculosis sanitarium in Murphys.
The owner of the property formerly known as the Bret Harte Center is seeking to develop the Sapphire Creek Cottages project on a 26-acre parcel that once was the site of the sanitarium which which was operated by the county from the late 20s to the mid 70s.
The project proposes 44 new homes on 33 cottage lots and 11 additional lots for larger homes. The project would be the second to be developed on the property in two years.
The Planning Commission will take up the issue tomorrow morning at 9:00.
