Sacramento, CA — The theft of a laptop from a car in Sacramento has led state health officials to begin notifying more than 20,000 Medi-Cal recipients they could be victims of identity theft.
Department of Health Services officials said they began sending letters to the Medi-Cal beneficiaries this week after the laptop was stolen April 15 from the trunk of a locked car belonging to an employee of the company that processes Medi-Cal services.
The computer contained names, Social Security numbers and personal health information for 21,600 Medi-Cal recipients.
