Former S.C.C. Instructor Sentenced On Molestation Charges

Sonora, CA — A former instructor at the Sierra Conservation Center has been sentenced to 14 years behind bars after his conviction on child molestation charges.
42-year-old Michael Overton of Sonora pled guilty to the charges in Tuolumne Superior Court. Overton was arrested last year after reports that he had molested two teen-aged girls at his home in Sonora Meadows between 2002 and 2004.
Prosecutors asked the court for prison time for the defendant because they said he´s a threat to the community. However defense attorneys thought Overton should receive a lighter sentence because he has no prior criminal record.
