New Melones — In commemoration of National Fishing Week, the Bureau of Reclamation will be taking a group of kids fishing at New Melones Lake this Saturday.
The annual Kids Fishing Fun Fair is being presented to introduce kids under the age of 15 to the sport. Rods, reels, bait, tackle and pointers will all be provided free of charge.
The event will also feature a variety of booths and demonstrations on lake ecology, fishing techniques and water safety. Organizers say the morning event will conclude with a barbecue lunch courtesy of the Tuolumne County Sportsmen.
This year´s event has also been expanded to include the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation, which provides special needs children with a quality outdoor experience through the sport of fishing.
C.A.S.T. participants will receive a free rod and reel, a t-shirt and hat, along with a tackle box and tackle to take home.
