Sonora, CA — After a long hard battle for funding, it appears the Summerville High School JROTC program is headed for the scrap pile.
The Summerville Union board made the decision earlier in the month to withdraw funding for the program due to budget cuts. That left boosters in a position to have to raise the funds themselves if they wanted to save the program.
Summerville booster President Julie Wurz says even though the group failed to meet its goal, there was still an abundance of community support. She says the group made a good portion of what was needed in addition to pledges from community members interested in supporting the program.
Wurz says the money raised could be used for scholarship money, or returned to the donors.
