Investigators Looking Into Alcohol Involvement In Fatal Crash
Tracy, CA — The California Highway Patrol says its looking into whether alcohol played a role in a crash that killed four commuters on the Altamont Pass.
CHP says 11 men were thrown from the minivan on Interstate 580 during rush hour yesterday.
The 19-year-old driver from Stockton and five other passengers remain hospitalized today. Two others were released after treatment. CHP says the car pool van was heading to Stockton when it drifted onto the shoulder near the median and then veered across lanes and rolled.
Investigators say they are awaiting blood tests to see if alcohol was involved in the single-vehicle crash.
The wreck eight miles west of Tracy caused a 25-mile backup.
