Mega Millions Debuts In California Under Legal Cloud

Sacramento, CA — The Mega Millions multistate lottery game has made its California debut.

The winning numbers drawn Friday night for a $42 million dollar jackpot were: 14-43-44-50-56 with a Mega Ball of 7.

The drawing followed brisk sales in California, where ticket buyers Wednesday set a first day sales record of $2.4 million for the game.

The strong sales surpassed the $1.7 million New York brought in on its first day in 2002.

California is the 12th state to join the Mega Millions game, which had a U-S record $363 million jackpot in May 2000.

It also had a $331 million jackpot in April 2002. With California aboard, the chances of winning are 1 in 175 million.
