Thornton Partially Surprised By Camden Group Report
Sonora, CA — After a day of reflection Tuolumne County Fourth District Supervisor Mark Thornton says he is surprised by one aspect of the Camden Group´s Tuolumne General Hospital report to the Board of Supervisors Tuesday.
That aspect; the amount of the deficit given that all cylinders would be firing and all operations would be working perfectly. The Camden Group reported that T.G.H. would lose between $31 and $39 million over the next six years even under the best case scenario.
Thornton added that despite the hospital´s legacy, it is simply unrealistic to believe that this community can financially support a fully operational hospital without state and/or federal funds.
He added that the cutback in services agreed to by the Board should have been initiated three or four years ago and that the money lost in that time period will probably never be recovered by the county.
