Election Countdown: Calaveras Unified School District
San Andreas, CA — On Election Day voters have a choice between two experienced candidates for their representative on the Calaveras Unified School District Board of Trustees.
Representing trustee area 2, incumbent Geraldine “Gerri” Conway is running for another term against Evan Garamendi. Both women are from San Andreas.
Conway has been on the school board for 16 years and was formerly employed with the Gilroy Unified School District. If reelected, she says, she´ll work to implement Measure A, see that playgrounds are safe and help combat childhood obesity by reviewing school physical education programs.
Garamendi has taught for 35 years at local schools. She says she´d like to see parents, teachers and the community be involved with each other. Garamendi feels she could bring a different perspective to the office. She says having taught in the classrooms gives her the experience to know what needs to happen.
The district covers the north half of Calaveras County and has 11 schools serving more than 3,500 students.
