Sonora To Host Constitution Day
Sonora, CA — Constitution Day is Sunday, September 17th but in Sonora it´ll be celebrated from noon to three o´clock tomorrow at the Court House Park.
According to Max Kernaghan of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3154, the celebration is being held to spotlight the rights that all Americans enjoy under the Constitution that was signed on September 17, 1787 by George Washington and the assembled delegates.
The Constitution basically replaced the Articles of Confederation. Under this new system, states would maintain much of their sovereignty but were now part of a unified whole under a people-chosen leader.
Saturday´s celebration will include an appearance by the Columbia Cornet Band under the direction of Mic Harper. George Washington, that´s right, George Washington will also be on hand. And there will be complimentary hot dogs and beverages served in the Veterans Hall across the street.
