Sonora, CA — An arsonist has been arrested for starting two small vegetation fires in the LaGrange area.

Shortly after midnight Saturday, an intoxicated 39 year old Reuben Lopez was apprehended by a passerby who witnessed the San Jose resident lighting two small grass fires along Bonds Flat Rd. in the LaGrange area.

According to the Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department, not only did the Atwater “good samaritan” apprehend Lopez, he also extinguished the small fires by himself. A security guard then maintained control of Lopez until sheriff´s deputies arrived to make the arrest.

The state prison parolee was booked into the county jail on two counts of arson and violation of parole. No bail was set.
