The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Yosemite National Park above the Valley floor, from Monday morning until Wednesday afternoon. A Winter Storm Watch will also be in effect for the western slope of the northern Sierra Nevada, from Monday morning until Wednesday evening.
The snow levels are expected to range between 6,500 to 7,000 feet.
Total snow accumulations of one to three feet are forecast above the 6,500 elevation.
Winds may gust up to thirty-five mph.
Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel in the high Sierra Nevada could be very difficult to impossible. Persons should delay all travel if possible.
If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with caution and be prepared for sudden changes in conditions. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.
The NWS does point out that confidence in the track of the storm and snow totals is currently low. Forecasts may vary. Monitor MyMotherLode.com for the latest updates on this situation.
