No Indictment In The McEvoy Death

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County District Attorney´s office will not be filing criminal charges against Paul “Little Eagle” Padilla in the death of 12 year old Veronica McEvoy.

The Concord youngster was lost in the Tuolumne River after a canoe in which she was riding overturned on June 26th. Padilla, his son and daughter, escaped injury. McEvoy´s remains were discovered several weeks ago.

According to District Attorney Donald Segerstrom, ” It is clear from the evidence submitted that there was no intent on Mr. Padilla´s part to harm or cause injury to the girl. Nor was there any evidence of a boating infraction indicating that Mr. Padilla acted in an unlawful manner.”

Segerstrom added, “Based upon a thorough review and consideration of all the evidence presented, there is insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Padilla acted with required criminal negligence.”
