Adventist Health raises $1.2 million for Camp Fire relief
Sonora, CA – Adventist Health has raised $686,391 as of Nov. 15 to aid in the relief effort for associates from Adventist Health Feather River who have lost their homes to the Camp Fire in Paradise, Calif. It is estimated that at least 600 homes have been lost by Adventist Health associates in the Paradise area.
The nearly $700,000 in donations have been made by Adventist Health staff, physicians, volunteers, vendors and others across the organization with facilities in California, Oregon and Hawaii. Adventist Health has pledged to match those donations with an additional contribution of $500,000. These funds will be distributed to help with immediate needs such as insurance deductibles, security deposits on new homes, replacement of possessions, relocation, travel, lodging costs and more.
Additionally, Adventist Health has committed more than $30 million to ensure that team members from Adventist Health Feather River have ongoing pay and benefits through Feb. 5, even though facilities will likely not come back on line for many months.
“Adventist Health Feather River serves a foothill community that is similar in many ways to our own,” says Tyler Newton, Operations Executive at Adventist Health Sonora. “Their harrowing experience with the Camp Fire is something that many of us prepare for, yet can hardly imagine. Associates in Sonora have been eager to pitch in and help in any way they can, and I am proud of our team for coming together in the wake of this tragedy. I feel blessed to be part of an organization that can provide this level of support for associates.”
Adventist Health Feather River was evacuated on Nov. 8. Staff members safely evacuated more than 60 patients in less than 40 minutes. All who were on duty eventually found their way to safety. Some Adventist Health Feather River facilities were damaged or destroyed by the fire.
