This year, we will host a hybrid virtual event that you can join remotely, like during Facelift 2020: Act Local. We will also be providing cleanup supplies in the park, weighing trash collected in the park, and putting on limited programs in Yosemite Valley. Last year, the park closed due to smoke from wildfires and it is possible that even with our best efforts, the Yosemite portion of Facelift may not be able to take place as we’re planning. In that case, we will continue with the virtual hosting of the event.
The Yosemite Climbing Association in partnership with Yosemite National Park and The North Face, Subaru, Black Diamond and other sponsors are actively planning the 18th Annual Yosemite Facelift. Because of limitations on camping, park entry, and indoor space, volunteers who plan to attend in Yosemite will need to be more self-sufficient than in past years.
Camping
The YCA was not able to hold spots in Camp Four, Tuolumne, Upper Pines, or other campgrounds like in previous years because camping in the park has been reduced due to ongoing Covid restrictions.
If you would like to reserve camping for Facelift, please reserve your own site through recreation.gov.
Park entry (day-use reservation) is included with a reservation for accommodations but if you are not able to secure a campsite, you will need to get a park entry pass (see below).
All accommodation reservations may be canceled seven days prior to the start of the reservation.
Yellow Pines: We will have tentative limited space in Yellow Pines this year and priority for spots will be given to event organizers.
Park Entry
If you would like to attend Yosemite Facelift this year and are not planning to camp or stay inside the park, you need a day-use reservation.
If you will not have overnight accommodations in the park, reserve a day-use permit (good for the three days following the start of the reservation and you may enter on any of the three days) on recreation.gov.
Day-use permits for Facelift days become available to the public on May 12th at 8am PT on recreation.gov. We recommend creating an account in advance so checkout is easier.
The reservation is a non-refundable $2 and you will have the option to pay the general park entry fee (or waive the fee if you already have a park pass) as you go through the screens to check out.
Additional reservations (20%) will open 7 days before the first desired day of entry (September 14th for 21st, 15th for 22nd, etc.).
Evening Programs
Seating in the auditorium will be extremely limited due to physical distancing requirements and we will most likely not have public seating inside for evening programs. We are still planning to host evening programs by simulcasting and live-streaming. See https://www.yosemitefacelift.com/
Hybrid/Virtual Event Option
The pandemic and the fires last year allowed all of us to think about and consider how we approach so many aspects of our lives. The YCA was able to go virtual with Facelift 2020 with 8,851 Hours Volunteered by 1,054 Volunteers.
Way to go to everyone who participated! It meant so much to us and your community! You rock!
We recognize that this year, the red tape in Yosemite will be challenging, so we are planning to continue the virtual component for Facelift 2021 and this will allow you to join remotely. If it’s not possible for you to come to Yosemite, we really encourage you to clean up locally.
Please keep your eye out for our next newsletter in July when we will share more information about Facelift 2021.
