Railtown 1897’s Long-Awaited Weekend Excursion Train Ride Season Begins April 3–4

In compliance with all state, city, and county guidelines, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown will begin the long-awaited weekend excursion train ride season on April 3-4, 2021. With social distancing and enhanced sanitation measures in place, the historic 1265 diesel engine will be operating all weekend. Excursion train ride departures for both days are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Following state issued guidelines, face masks are required for all Park staff and visitors. To accommodate social distancing, trains will run at limited capacity. Two of the four train cars operating will be open-air cars and all will be cleaned in between each train ride. In addition, special attention will be focused on high-touch points such as grab irons and handrails.

Weekend train ride guests will enjoy a memorable six-mile, 45-minute round trip ride along the rails of the famous “Movie Railroad,” including past the iconic water tank seen in “Petticoat Junction,” a popular TV show that aired in the 60s and early 70s. The Park will also be open for self-guided tours and exhibits will include interpretive signage. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the sprawling Roundhouse lawn.

On Easter Sunday, the Easter Bunny will make a special appearance on the #7 Caboose, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be photo opportunities and Easter treat bags for children (while supplies last), included with paid Park admission.

With the reduced capacity, visitors are encouraged to purchase excursion train ride tickets online in advance. If still available on the day of the train ride, tickets can be purchased at the Depot Store on a first-come, first-served basis. All paid train ride tickets include Park admission and cost $15 for adults, $10 for youth ages 6-17 and are free for children five and under. Park-only admission costs $5 for adults, $3 for youths ages 6-17 and is free for children five and under.
