Are some people just born evil, or is evil something that must be learned over time? This question is at the center of Maxwell Anderson’s “The Bad Seed,” the tense thriller presented by Fourth Wall Entertainment at the Metropolitan in San Andreas. Opening Friday, October 13 and running through November 5, the play, inspired by the novel of the same title by William March, is best remembered by the classic 1956 film adaptation that has terrified audiences for decades.

Perfect dress, perfect manners, perfect penmanship…Rhoda Penmark (Emmaline Turnbeaugh) is the dream child of her doting parents, Christine (Lauren Ramirez) and Kenneth (Joseph Slankard). But when Rhoda’s schoolmate dies under mysterious circumstances and suspicions swirl around Rhoda’s actions on the day of the death, Christine is forced to confront her deepest fears and face the truth about her past…and Rhoda’s future. A chilling meditation on the nature of evil, “The Bad Seed” will keep audiences in the dark until the last, terrifying scene.

Joining Turnbeaugh, Ramirez, and Slankard onstage are Rhonda Merrill as Monica Breedlove, Denny Bowen as Emory Wages, Joseph Gates as Leroy Jessup, Danielle Benedetti-Kronig and Dawn Maka as the Fern Sisters, Alan Crisp as Reginald Tasker, Jillian Zahniser as Mrs. Daigle, Tyler Squires as Mr. Daigle, Stephen Daly as Richard Bravo, and Sam Shelton as the Radio Announcer / Messenger.

“The Bad Seed” is directed by Cyndie Klorer and stage managed by Emma Darmsted. Set design, art, and construction is by John and Jude Turnbeaugh, lighting and sound board operation are by Tawni Schirmer and Niki Trammell, and costumes are by Klorer and Ann Mazzaferro.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm, October 13 through November 5. Tickets are $20 for general admission, and $15 for students and seniors. Due to the content of this production, this show is not recommended for audience members under twelve years of age.
