This year is the First Steps Against Melanoma 5k Fundraiser. I had planned on an in person event at Dragoon Gulch, but the pandemic has made it so all our fundraisers are virtual.

Aim at Melanoma uses funds to support research to find a cure for melanoma. Melanoma is so much more than skin cancer. It often spreads to the brain and liver. A melanoma diagnosis used to be a death sentence, but thanks to many researchers and the support from AIM at Melanoma a person’s prognosis for survival is looking better and better!

I am a stage 4 melanoma survivor. In fall of 2010 I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic melanoma. I had a 16 cm tumor in my left armpit and mets in my lungs. The cancer was spreading fast and I had a 5% chance of making it 5 years. I had about 4-6 months to live. I was grateful and blessed to end up at the Angeles Clinic in Santa Monica with treatment from Dr. Hamid. The Angeles Clinic is one place receiving help to continue its life saving research.
