Columbia College Community Chorus with Orchestra annual “Sounds of the Season” Concert
December 6-8, 2019
Friday 7:30 pm / Saturday and Sunday 3 pm Sonora Opera Hall
Dr. Daryl Hollinger, Conductor

Begin your holiday season with the Columbia College Community College Chorus in concert! In the first half, the chorus and orchestra present Antonio Vivaldi’s most famous choral piece, “Gloria,” based on the traditional Gloria from the Latin Mass. This popular work lay undiscovered for two centuries after the composer’s death; it wasn’t until 1957 that the now familiar version was performed. The second half of the concert includes traditional Christmas carols settings with fresh rhythms and harmonies including some jazz arrangements with a small jazz ensemble accompanying the chorus. In Dr. Hollinger’s arrangement of “Ding Dong Merrily on High,” hand bells are featured. Also included is the chorus’s traditional “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah, and the ever-popular audience sing-along.
