Join us for the Poetry Out Loud Recitation Competition at the Red Church on 2nd Saturday on February 10th. This FREE event begins at 2:00 and features students from three local schools.

If you have not been to a POL contest, you are in for a literary treat! The energy and enthusiasm of the students is inspiring. Please join us for this FREE event.

Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition for high school students across the country. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Since 2005, POL (Poetry Out Loud) has grown to reach more than 3.8 million students and 60,000 teachers from 16,000 schools in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Twelve participating students from local high schools will compete for prizes and
the opportunity to advance to the state finals. Three schools are
participating this year; Sonora, Tioga, and Summerville High Schools. State
winners from all over the country will compete in the POL National Finals in
Washington D.C., April 30-May 2.
