Old Don Pedro Overlook Trail (Red Hills) Hike

Don’t let the inclusion of “overlook” in the trail name scare you. This is an easy-to-moderate hike on an old gravel road with an elevation gain of just 300′. Tuolumne County Trailhead hikers will take a 4-mile loop and possibly explore a 1-mile spur trail (the additional miles make the “moderate” rating). This trail is in the southwest portion of the Red Hills and accessed off of J59 just south of Red Hills Rd/Crimea House. We may see wildflowers, Bald Eagles, and equestrians. We will see very large manzanita bushes and flowing creeks (maybe even have a water crossing). Dress in layers. Bring trail snacks/lunch. ON-LEASH dogs welcome. The Tuolumne County Trailhead program airs on KAAD-LP 103.5 FM (Sonora’s community radio station) on second and fourth Sundays at 12:30pm; hikes are monthly on first Saturdays.
