St. Matthew Lutheran Church Sonora will observe Maundy Thursday with a service on March 28 at 12:00N. Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday as it is also known, commemorates Christ’s Last Supper with the apostles as they celebrated the Passover meal on the night before he was crucified. Maundy Thursday is a very important day within “Holy Week” which is the week before Easter. It is a time to remember the final acts of Jesus and focus on Christ’s sacrifice for his people. The service will include Holy Communion and include the tradition of “stripping the altar” in preparation for Christ’s death by resurrection the next day.
