Mother Lode Bonsai Club’s Saturday, October 4 meeting will feature Sam, a popular local area bonsai teacher. The club’s monthly meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the San Andreas Central Library, 1299 Gold Hunter Road (off Mountain Ranch Road) in San Andreas. The free demonstration on styling a Monterey cypress will immediately follow the meeting.
Sam, who is also the sensei (teacher) for the Modesto Bonsai Club, has conducted training presentations since 2008, including the Golden State Bonsai Federation, California Shohin Society and numerous bonsai venues in the Philippines.
According to him, bonsai is his way of relaxing after a strenuous day at work. “I find a challenge with every tree because each is totally different. With styling, the character of the tree is brought out to appear like a natural specimen in the wild,” he said.
A raffle will be held for bonsai materials and members will have trees available for purchase. There will also be a hands-on workshop where senior club mentors will assist and provide advice for those in attendance.
