The Aronos Research Club invites everyone to come to a Kentucky Derby High Tea on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from Noon to 3 p.m. at the Aronos Clubhouse located at 37 Elkin Street in downtown Sonora.

Tickets are $20 per person, and children under 12 years old are free. Space is limited to 40 guests so reservations are encouraged. Reservations can be made by emailing aronosresearchclub@yahoo.com.

“Guests are invited to come dressed up and wear their finest hat,” Cathie Hollins, 1st Vice-President of the Aronos Research Club, said. “We will be giving prizes for the Biggest Hat, the Smallest Hat and Most Creative Hat.”

Hollins said the Aronos Research Club teas, held in spring and fall of each year, have long been a popular event.

“In addition to tea and scrumptious goodies, we will have live entertainment,” Hollins said.

Gary and Elena Linehan appear as Amnesia performing guitar and vocal music. Bonnet Sausol will return with her popular dance number. Country Music duo Jim and Bobby will perform.

New this year is a photo booth for guests to have a memento of their visit complete with Kentucky Derby backdrop and props.

Bone China Teapot table decorations will be given out in an opportunity drawing. A silent auction will feature items including a Mint Julep basket, a Dolly & Me 4 Tea basket, a Surf’s Up basket and a Nap Time basket.

“This is a time to come and have fun and make friends,” Hollins said. “ We would love for Grandmas to bring the grandkids, and for neighbors to come with each other. We promise you will leave with a smile.”

Proceeds from the event fund the Aronos Research Club’s scholarship program for Fire Science students at Columbia College.

The Aronos Research Club was established in 1915 and purchased the clubhouse in 1936. With 30 members, the Aronos is the largest club in Yosemite District of the California Federation of Women’s Clubs and one of the few clubs that owns their own clubhouse in the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.
