Manzanita Writers Press is in the midst of capturing oral history in our county at the Calaveras Community Television studio and on location. We are gathering the stories of our elders all over the county and want to hear your family tales and stories across generations, living in our county and in the region, and what is was like in Calaveras growing up, raising kids, participating in businesses, recreation, commercial and civic experiences–rural life and raising cattle, sheep, goats, vineyards and crops, mining and logging– living the good life. Maybe not the simple life, but calling Calaveras home for years. We want your family conversations to become historical forever and tell the stories so that they stick–on video in a studio or at your home or business.
The Oral Stories of Gold Country received a grant to save and preserve these stories for all time. We are partnering with our local museums, historians, youth groups, Chamber of Commerce, Volunteer and Senior Centers, Libraries, the Visitors Bureau, Miwok elders, and more groups to honor the elders and listen to their stories creating the fabric of our county.
With a grant from California Humanities for funding classes in filming and filming/editing personnel, Voices of Wisdom, and in part, funding from Calaveras Community Foundation for the filming and recording equipment, we are aiming to record at least 50 people this year, at least, telling their very important impressions of life in the slow lane up here.
Contact us and we’ll capture your very important family story on film, with footage preserved for historical importance. We are filming conversations. so you don’t have to go it alone. It’s lots of fun remembering the way it used to be, especially with a group of friends, buddies, family members, and co-workers.
