Mother Lode Bonsai Club will host its fifth annual show and exhibit on Saturday, September 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be held at the San Andreas Central Library, 1299 Gold Hunter Road (off Mountain Ranch Road) in San Andreas. Admission and parking are free.
“The annual show is our club’s biggest event of the year and is an opportunity for the public to view dozens of specially styled and designed trees by members,” said Richard McKinstry, club president. “The essential goal of bonsai is transforming a growing specimen into a miniature living sculpture, aged by natural elements. Viewed as such, bonsai has grown in popularity around the world today. Anyone with an interest in bonsai is invited.”
Bonsai demonstrations will be conducted at 10.30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. along with raffles for the featured trees after each demo. Silent auction items will be available for bidding. Plus, a number of trees, pots and related bonsai items will be on sale.
“Also planned is a basic styling class, limited to twelve participants. Conducted by club mentors on a do-it-yourself platform, it is an excellent way of educating people on how to start their own tree,” said McKinstry. “Class fee is $35. per person, which includes a plant, bonsai materials and an instructional sheet on care. Plus, they can always come to any of our monthly club meetings in the future for more tips on maintenance and styling.”
Information on the Mother Lode Bonsai Club can be found online at www.motherlodebonsai.org or by contacting McKinstry at (209) 288-2330. Club members come from Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, as well as the Central Valley.
