Crafting Event Planned With Lighting Ceremony in Downtown Sonora

The Aronos Research Club is joining forces with Tuolumne County Arts, Mother Lode Makers
Lab and Sonora Chamber of Commerce to host a craft making workshop in conjunction with
the Lighting Ceremony of Downtown Sonora on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

Crafting with Tuolumne County Arts will take place in the Aronos Clubhouse located at 37
Elkin Street from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The event is planned to coincide with the Ceremony of Light, which is part of the
Christmas Town activities planned by the Sonora Chamber of Commerce.

The 5:30 lighting of the trees at the red church launches Christmas Town events in
downtown Sonora.

The public is invited to join Tuolumne County Arts and Mother Lode Maker Labs at the
Aronos Clubhouse to create tree ornaments and gift tags from recycled materials.

“The event is open to all ages and absolutely free,” Elena Linehan, Aronos Research Club
volunteer, said.

“We always have something fun to make and take,” Laurie Livingston of Tuolumne County
Arts, said. “We’ll bring everything and let you and your friends and family have fun
creating.”

Warm drinks and gingerbread cookies will be served.

The Aronos Clubhouse was built in 1902 and purchased by the Aronos Research Club in 1936.
The Aronos members have been serving the community since the club was founded 108 years
ago.

Sonora joined the ranks of Christmas Towns last year, and the Sonora Historic Chamber of
Commerce has shepherded the program highlighting holiday activities for families to
participate in. This is the second year that the Lighting Ceremony has been scheduled at
the Red Church. The public is encouraged to gather in the Fire Museum Parking Lot on
Washington Street in time to view the lighting at 5: 30 p.m.

Tuolumne County Arts is the preeminent local arts organization having been founded and
aligned with the California Arts Council since the 1970s. The members of Tuolumne County
Arts welcome everyone to come and join in the fun. And if you’d like to make more, visit
their Creative Reuse Store for seasonal materials at amazing prices in their downtown
location at 21 N. Washington Street.
