Central Sierra Audubon Society (CSAS) has scheduled an outing to the Merced National Wildlife Refuge to see birds as they migrate south for the winter. Tour leader Kit DeGear expects to see Sandhill Cranes, Snow/Ross’s Geese and many other species on their southward migration. CSAS also will do a trip to the refuge in January before the birds head north again. Meet at Barrow’s Restaurant parking area at 10:30 to carpool/caravan to the refuge or meet at the first platform at the refuge at noon. A brief stop will be made at Dawson Lake on the way along J59. Bring a sack lunch, binoculars and birding guides if available. The group will leave in the late afternoon to return before dark. Pease RSVP to Kit DeGear at (925)822-5215 or kitdegear@gmail.com.
