Step Out (and In, and Forward, and Back) for Youth Mentoring at the Calaveras Mentoring Foundation

Enjoy some old-time country fun while supporting the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program at a festive Barn Dance in Vallecito. Tickets are $60 per person with reservations available at the Calaveras Mentoring website,  CalaverasMentoring.org.

The Barn Dance is being held in the Big Red Barn, generously shared by longtime Calaveras Mentoring supporters Laura and Rick Lowell.  It’s the perfect setting for revelers to experience highly sought-after American folk dance caller and musician Erik Hoffman and his band, the Whiskey Brothers. The event also includes a casual meal by Mary’s Tacos, a no-host bar with wines donated by Allegorie, a raffle, and an auction to raise funds for youth mentoring in Calaveras County.

In addition to calling and performing, Erik Hoffman is a teacher, writer and composer of American folk music and dancing, also called contra dancing. The dances are performed in groups, accompanied by lively fiddle music, and require neither experience nor a partner. Erik Hoffman will call the steps and teach all the moves, called figures.

“We’re excited to welcome both longtime and new supporters to our Barn Dance,” said CMF Board Member and Event Committee Member Steve Mertens.  “We wanted something fun and inclusive to bring everyone together as we celebrate twenty years of Calaveras Mentoring.”

The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program was founded in 2003 and has served more than 200 youth in Calaveras County over the past twenty years. The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program is administered by the Calaveras County Office of Education and connects local youth with safe, positive mentors who offer friendship, opportunity, and support for making healthy life decisions. The Calaveras Mentoring Foundation, founded in 2010, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for youth mentoring in Calaveras County.
