Forty-seven years and still going strong, Lumberjack Day is October 1st. It’s Harvest time and the first Saturday in October is always the culmination of all the hard work, and accomplishments of our community, celebrating small town life in the Motherlode. Our 47th year Parade theme is “The Roaring 20’s”, celebrating over 100 years of logging in the mountains.
Schedule of Events for Saturday October 1, 2022.
7:00 am Lumberjack Day Breakfast at the Veterans Memorial Hall Hwy 26, across from the Red Church. The West Point Community Covenant Church will provide a delicious Breakfast to start off your day.
8:30 am Soap Box Derby on Main Street. Come on down and watch the spectacular races, we now have 3 cars available for local kids to participate with thanks to the generous donations by the Calaveras Coachmen’s Assn. and John Riley.
9:00 am Car and Motorcycle Show on Main St., Please stop in and vote for your favorite. Vendor booths are open for some early morning shopping, and you can quench your thirst at the Beer or wine Booth.
9:30 am. Winners of the Lumberjack Day King and Queen contest will be announced at the Judges Stand in front of the Blue Mountain Theater. The contestants sold tickets; all proceeds will go to their college education. The National Anthem will be sung this year by Calaveras High School Freshman Avery Adams.
11:00 am the 47th Annual Lumberjack Day Parade will get underway with the VFW Color Guard flags leading down Main St. Our spectacular parade is a sanctioned California State Horsemen’s Assoc. event, our Grand Marshall this year is Linda Toren, the Poet Laureate of Calaveras County. The parade line-up begins on Winton Road turning left on Main Street, down to the corner and turns left on Pine St. The parade is a real mixture of small-town life with amazing floats, antique cars, and Hot Rods, loggers, animals, walking formations and our own drill team, the Lawn Chair Brigade! Check it out its lots of hometown fun.
12:00 pm (approximately after the parade) The Children’s area gets started, a $5.00 wristband lets you have your face painted, climb the Rock Wall, and bounce or slide in the inflatables. The fun will be in front of the BMCYF Youth Center, proceeds help the Calaveras HS Cheer Team. The Petting Zoo brought to you by our local 4-H Club, will be set up at the corner of Main and Pine St, along with the Dunk Tank both are free and ready for the young and old alike. The Fire House BBQ fundraiser is open all day with smoked ribs and all the fixin’s. The live music on the BMCYF Garden Stage (#4 on your map) begins at noon with the band “TEAL WHEELS”. Take some time out with a tasty treat, listen to the music and rest in the shade with plenty of tables and chairs to relax. Take a stroll in the community garden, play corn hole or take in the new art installations.
Quilt Show, is back thanks to April Kleven we will have a Quilt show hosted in the Blue Mountain Theater building, many quilts will be displayed and offered for sale. A new competition has been added this year, a Flower Show hosted by the West Point Gardeners Group at the IOOF Hall on Main St, including a grow the largest pumpkin contest open to everyone.
1:00 pm The Logging Show and competitions start off with Axe Throwing, Look for the targets. Entries and sign-ups are available all morning. The Horseshoe Tournament gets underway on the West side of the Fire House.
2:00 pm The Parade Awards Ceremony will be at the BMCYF Community Garden Stage. Please remember to pick up your trophies before the end of the day.
The Committee would like to welcome and thank Amador Interact Club for being in charge of our Trash and Recycling this year. We couldn’t succeed without them!
3:00 Raffle Winners Announced from the Logging Show and Lions Club. The Benefit Club, Fire Department, and the Car Show also host their own raffles. Be sure and get your tickets early you may win a custom Razor Axe by Precision Axe LLC .
5:00 pm Lumberjack Day is officially closed, but you can still catch a few events at the Logging Show.
There are 3 parking lots on Hwy 26 and a free shuttle provided by CUSD all day to downtown. All proceeds benefit Calaveras HS FFA.
