County Teachers Workshop Day

The Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools Office is hosting a day long workshop for all teachers on November 1 at Sonora High School. This countywide professional learning day was organized in response to requests from teachers for an opportunity to collaborate within grade levels and content areas. Educators also wanted to draw upon local educator expertise in literacy, numeracy, technical applications, and other areas to increase student-learning opportunities.

The planning for this event has taken place over the past year with teachers from the district’s working with Deputy Superintendent Margie Bulkin to plan the days activities.

The day begins with Grade/Content Alike sessions so teachers across the county can start to develop a collaborative culture with colleagues from different schools to strengthen academic programs, problem-solve, and find support within our local schools.

There are break out sessions before and after lunch that showcase the expertise and creativity of local classroom practices. Creating a Classroom Website led by Greg Smith of Summerville High School is an example of a teacher-led session that will help teachers create a free, classroom website to foster a collaborative classroom culture using technology in an innovative manner. Another session called Using Interactive History Materials for the CCSS-ELA in Grades 6-12 led by Carol Smith, Alice Leonardo and Kellene Ditler of Curtis Creek will help teachers find interactive, on-line resources for CA Common Core Implementation. CA Common Core math sessions geared toward all grade levels are found throughout the schedule.

This is the first time in many years for this type of training. The Tuolumne County Professional Learning Day is truly a collaborative effort between Tuolumne County educators.
