Ex-Commissioners attend a “COA Reunion” on October 11, 2011

At the last meeting of the Tuolumne County Commission on Aging, seven recent and decades past former commissioners gathered to attend the meeting and to reminisce about their own experiences. An information exchange was held between current and former members. Refreshments were shared and a grand time was had by all. The names of those former commissioners who attended were, in no particular order: Virginia White; Larry Bodiford; Nancy Conti; Bill Loring; Kathy Madden; Barbara Kearney; Jim Grinnell.

“Aging for Dummies” Conference Provides Good Information Exchange
at The Tuolumne County Senior Center September 29, 2011

“Aging for Dummies” – a day-long series of small group workshops designed especially for seniors, family members, and caregivers was held at the Tuolumne County Senior Center Thursday, September 29. Workshops included: Seniors At Risk–Scams and Other Threats, Housing and Caregiver Options, Emergency Preparedness and In-Home Safety, Senior Peer Counseling, Long-Term Care Insurance and Reverse Mortgages, Personal Finances for Seniors, HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, Tuolumne County Medical Services, Transportation Options for Seniors, “Get Me Involved!”–Leadership Tuolumne Seniors, Community Advocacy Programs, and Community Activities for Seniors.
Written evaluations were collected at the end of the day and included the following comments on the overall program:

“Very well planned, and helpful.”

“I thought the whole day was worthwhile and we need to get more people to attend.”

“Great stuff! Let’s do it annually.”

“Excellent information – presenters knowledgeable and articulate.”

There was no admission charge, and no selling by presenters. Attendees were treated to morning and afternoon snacks, compliments of Skyline Place and Oak Terrace Memory Care, tickets to Sierra Repertory Theatre were awarded to a lucky attendee.

“Aging for Dummies” was presented by the Education Committee of the Tuolumne County Commission on Aging.

The event was sponsored by Tuolumne County Behavioral Health, Black Oak Casino, Seniority Lifecare At Home, The California Wellness Foundation, Cutler-Segerstrom Insurance and Sierra Senior Providers.
