Update: Fire In San Andreas

Update at 4:50 p.m.: CAL Fire Spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports that firefighters have stopped the forward progress of the Carol Fire burning east of the Calaveras County Airport and Highway 49. The blaze ignited in a structure and then spread to an acre of vegetation near the 4700 block of Costa Drive in the San Andreas area of Calaveras County after 3:30 p.m. A small crew will work towards full containment and then mop up. What sparked the fire is under investigation.

Update at 4:10 p.m.: CAL Fire updates details and the address for the Carol Fire burning in the San Andreas area of Calaveras County. Spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports, “Firefighters are at the scene of a structure fire that has spread to one acre of vegetation near the 4800 block of Costsa Drive in San Andreas.”

The fire is east of Highway 49 and the Calaveras County Airport.

Update at 3:55 p.m.: CAL Fire reports that the vegetation blaze named the Carol Fire is one and a half to two acres in size. They note that the fire broke out in the grass near Carol Kennedy Road and Highway 49. The flames are moving at a slow rate of spread. Additional resources are being called to the scene.

Original post at 3:45 p.m.: San Andreas, CA — Air and ground resources are heading to a reported vegetation blaze near the Calaveras County Airport off Highway 49.

The flames broke out near Carol Kennedy Road. Currently, there are no details regarding the fire’s size, the flames’ rate of spread, or whether any structures are threatened. An update will be provided as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
