A theater-owning koala named Buster Moon (voiced by Matthew McConaughey) falls on hard times and holds a singing competition to help regain his fortunes. Moon decides to stage a singing competition with the winner getting $1,000, but an error makes it $100,000. The generous sum attracts talent from far and wide: Mike (Seth MacFarlane), a sleazy mouse with a voice like Frank Sinatra; Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), a stay-at-home mom to two dozen piglets; Ash (Scarlett Johansson), a punk rock porcupine; Johnny (Taron Egerton), a gorilla with a bank robbing father; Meena (Tori Kelly), a teenage elephant with acute stage fright; and Gunter (Nick Kroll), a very flamboyant pig.
“An ephemeral pleasure but a pleasure nonetheless. …can be described using six words: great soundtrack, generic story and artwork.” –James Berardinelli –ReelViews
“A veritable farmyard of fun.” -Leslie Felperin -The Hollywood Reporter
