Sonora, CA -- Sonora residents are more likely to comply with the safety belt law thanks the “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

The Sonora Police Department joined hundreds of other State and local law enforcement and highway safety officials across the Nation from May 22nd to June 4th, for an aggressive “Click It or Ticket” mobilization to save lives.

During the campaign, officers issued 66 citations to drivers and passengers for not wearing their safety belts or for child safety seat violations.

Reports indicate that while only about a fifth of Americans live in rural areas, rural traffic fatalities account for 58 percent of the Nation´s total.

Even more alarming, the motor vehicle crash fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles traveled in rural areas is almost double the fatality rate in urban areas.

Even though the special enforcement period has ended, the Sonora Police Department will continue its enforcement of safety belt and child safety seat violations.
