Sonora, CA -- CAL FIRE Investigator Rommie Jones reports the Kennedy Meadows fire of early this morning was ignited by a flue fire in the attic of the main lodge.

The fire was first reported at 2am. Bart Bloom along with his sons Matt and Josh fought the fire on their own for the first hour from their on-site 500 gallon fire engine. That effort proved to be fruitless as the fire quickly spread to the trees through the attic and to a number of other structures.

Seven cabins were also destroyed along with a number of outbuildings, a car and a pickup truck. No damage was reported to the manager´s residence, a number of employee cabins, the pack station and the bar.

Jones estimated the total damage at $1.5 million.
